It also incorporates Steyr’s hammer-forged barrel, flush-fitting detachable, single-stack magazine, and low bolt lift of 60 degrees. All the elements of the Luxus are, strictly speaking, not entirely new, as the action utilizes the Steyr Safe Bolt System (SBS) but with added features such as an exchangeable bolt body and bolt handle and all the advantages it offers. The conventional outward appearance of this rifle belies its ultra-modern, modular takedown design. The Luxus is available in three grades of wood with wooden sideplates that correspond to each category. The two-piece stock is checkered at 20 lines per 25mm in a bordered point pattern. The Wundhammer-swell pistol grip flares and is uncapped. The wood is a medium brown-coloured walnut with plenty of figure. The new Luxus has all the hallmarks of that old cliche, “old world craftsmanship” - graceful lines, a dull black finish on all exterior metal surfaces, well-figured European walnut with sharp hand-cut checkering and a hogsback comb with Bavarian-style cheekpiece. Steyr Mannlicher has taken traditional tastes into account and the company’s new takedown model retains a somewhat conservative styling that is quite distinctive. The new Mannlicher Luxus is a handsome rifle, with enough Continental features to give it a slightly exotic touch. The new Mannlicher Luxus embodies an entirely different takedown system while maintaining the flavour of its old-world origins.
